Job Description
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Establish transaction timelines in conjunction with the Affordable Team Lead and Deputy Chief Underwriter, and Producer
  • Conduct a critical review and analysis of the appraisal, including a review of the market analysis, property description, real estate tax analysis, zoning analysis, and the comparable properties
  • Provide in depth review and analysis of the engineering report, plan and cost review and environmental reports plus additional reports included as part of the underwriting such as seismic studies, market studies, etc., as appropriate
  • Oversee generation of BWE’s underwriting checklist and all forms as appropriate for the proper product type and introduce borrower to the information requirements
  • Summarizing terms of subordinate financing, LIHTC funding schedules, and overall project capitalization for Affordable Housing nationwide
  • Conduct due diligence review of issues relating to the property’s market, location, condition, borrower and principal’s mortgage credit issues, property management and other issues relevant to risks identified in items collected from the borrower’s checklist
  • Conduct site inspections, lease audits, and market analysis for transactions underwritten
  • Demonstrate ongoing knowledge and competency with Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae program guidelines as established in each of their Multifamily Seller and Servicer Guides
  • Provide succinct summaries and conclusions to make recommendations on assigned transactions by preparing a presentation for the BWE Loan Committee
  • Represent BWE underwriting on large group conference calls
  • Conduct critical reviews of BWE loan documentation for execution by the Deputy Chief Underwriter including mortgage loan commitment letters
  • Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as required
QUALIFICATIONS/EPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of 2-3 years multifamily underwriting experience with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
  • transactions with an affordable emphasis preferred
  • 3+ years of relevant experience, including a good working knowledge of market factors relevant to multifamily underwriting, including occupancies, rent levels, expense items; experience working with appraisers, engineering/environmental firms
  • Ability to operate effectively in a team environment as well as able to work independently
  • Travel required (estimated 5%)
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast- paced environment and demonstrate a proven track record of multi-tasking
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
